While using sandpaper to bring a trailing edge to shape from square stock can be done, it's often faster and more accurate to use a balsa razor plane. These razor plans are small hand held tools which are available quite cheaply at most hobby stores yet they are incredibly valuable in the workshop. Most certainly get one, learn to use it well and enjoy the newfound ability to shape your projects with much greater ease.
