13. Flying

13.1 Setting the Center of Gravity

The selection of the CG on the QFII is mostly a matter of personal preference. We suggest you start at the CG being located just on the rearward edge of the spar and work your way from that location. Some people prefer to fly nose heavy, others prefer tail heavy, experiment and see what suits you best.

13.2 Test gliding

Ensure the rudder and elevator are neutral before doing this task and that the center of gravity (CG) has been set to the rear of the main dihedral brace.

It's recommended that for testing the wind be either negligible or very light. Strong winds will produce unpredictable results for a test glide.

Give the QFII a moderate to light toss from above your shoulder into the wind. It should fly straight out and have and have no pitching up or down moments. From a height of 1.5~1.8m the QFII should glide in excess of 20m. If the plane pitches either nose up or down excessively check that your control surfaces are neutral and that the wing is sitting flat correctly.
