1. Preface

1.1 Introduction

Welcome to the build manual for the QuickFlick-II, from here on called the QFII.

The QFII was designed out of the need for a built-up discus launch capable glider in the 50'' wingspan class that wouldn't cost much more than some pocket change and could be built by most people within a week using rudimentary tools and materials. The current QFII is the result of no less than five separate iterations of design, progressively improving both the launch performance and glide duration while also keeping the build process within the capabilities of most hobbyist workshops.

The QFII is known to be capable of 40m/120' launches, putting the QFII well within competition class performance requirements.

1.2 About the Designer

Paul L Daniels has been flying models since the late 1970's. Paul has a primary interest in built up model designs, considering them to be more aesthetically beautiful' and easier for the modeller to construct using conventional equipment. At the time of writing Paul lives in the north eastern Australian fringe outback, providing plenty of time and opportunity to fly.

1.3 Build Options

The QFII can be built to several different specifications based on your perceived requirements, these different options will be indicated through the manual as

• LIGHT OPTION; built to this level, the QFII can reliably tolerate launches up to 30m/90ft. This build is the lightest of builds (average of 195g/7oz) and is ideal for the newcomer to kit building and for low/no wind days. This build is suggested primarily to people who are not yet comfortable with aspects of building such as fiber-glassing.
• ADVANCED OPTION; built to this level, the QFII can reliably achieve launches up to 40m/120ft. This build will weigh the most (average of 220g/8oz) and is ideal for the pilot trying to maximise their DLG performance. The advanced build also can handle weather with stronger winds due to the higher wing loading. As the builder you are free to select various Advanced Options based on anticipated requirements, ie a lot of builders opt to fiberglass the fuselage in order to provide a longer lasting model.
